Over the course of the next 18-24 months, MiHIN will be migrating to a new Integrated Technology Environment.
After an extensive, 6-month-long technical, management, and executive evaluation process, our leadership and governance teams have collectively arrived at the Integrated Technology Environment - an AWS platform with a cloud-native integration engine and FHIR®-friendly clinical data repository. This migration will give our network better technology with less complexity that’s positioned to take advantage of HL7® FHIR® (future technological) transformations.
We recognize that some of the upcoming changes over the next 18-24 months may impact you. Migration is a complex process. To mitigate impacts and risks, we will provide opportunities for early adopters to pilot and will communicate every step of the way.
To stay up-to-date on the migration, continue to look to this e-publication, The Interface, and bookmark our MIGRATION WEBPAGE.
MiHIN & Native American Heritage Month
Health disparities among Native Americans are vast and persistent. Interoperability can help close that gap.
Under the leadership of Krystal Schramm, “Miskwa Mishiki Que – Red Turtle Woman,” descendant of Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribe, Senior Technical Business Analyst, the MiHIN team met one-on-one with tribes across the state to learn about each tribe’s respective patient populations, cultural needs, tribal clinics and clinical workflows.
Every year, MiHIN is closed for business between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. The goal is to give MiHIN employees true time off to be with their families. We do, however, have a team that is monitoring the Help Desk ticketing system, phone lines, and interfaces.
To reduce potential impact to our customers, we have shortened our annual freeze significantly compared to years prior. This year, a maintenance production code and feature freeze will occur 12/21/22 through 1/2/23.
During this time, MiHIN will be not be able to implement requests for changes or enhancements to our production environments.
An operational freeze will occur 12/21/22 through 1/2/23.
During this time, no new users or organizations can be introduced to, trained, or added to existing use cases, services and/or tools.
ACRS Files submitted through SFTP or DSM won’t be validated and/or loaded. If you submit ACRS files via this method please make sure to submit your valid ACRS files before Wednesday, 12/21/22 for loading.
ACRS file submissions via the MIGateway File Submission module will remain operable.
Again, the MiHIN office will be closed December 24th, 2022 through January 2nd, 2023.
If you require assistance, please submit a ticket to https://mihinhelp.refined.site/portal/50 or email help@mihin.org. If you are experiencing issues that are causing a critical or significant business impact, please call our help desk at (844) 454-2443.
Policy Updates
On November 28, 2022 the Health and Human Services Department (HHS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released a proposed rule for 42 CFR Part 2 information (Part 2 Information).
This new rule is a large step in the right direction to prevent siloed behavioral health information and put in place practical rules to govern sharing of health information.
The proposed rule would increase care coordination for treatment purposes, aligning Part 2 sharing more closely with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), while simultaneously increasing patient protections to avoid discrimination.
Building off the momentum created by the Michigan Health Information Network’s (MiHIN’s) Interoperable Referrals Pledge, eight of the nation’s leading social care platform vendors, Care Advisors, CareConvene, Findhelp, Holon, PCE Systems, Riverstar, Unite Us and WellSky, have formed a Community of Practice (CoP) hosted by MiHIN.
Collaboratively governed and facilitated, the CoP is dedicated to the statewide sharing of data that documents social need identification, referrals, interventions, and outcomes amongst care teams that span health and social care.
MiHIN is excited about the new synergies possible between EHNAC and DirectTrust with this announcement. This provides the healthcare industry with:
• a premier healthcare-focused accreditation, standards development, and technical trust partner for stakeholders and: • a single partner for stakeholders to convene and contribute to policies/standards/best practices around trust, accreditation/certification verifying trust obligations are met, and technical identity assurance – knowing and trusting who organizations are exchanging with.
MiHIN is active with both organizations and looks forward to continuing to leverage the value that the new merged entity will provide.

The MiHIN team will join other industry leaders to discuss national-level exchange of health information to establish HIE as a standard of care, while fostering and supporting innovation.
