Less is more. Did you know MiHIN offers a single, affordable (less than $5/day per user) solution - the Medical Information Gateway, or MIGateway® - to access and organize all the patient information we exchange through the network.
How MiHIN Is Making Progress Connecting Michigan’s Tribes to HIE
In a recent interview, Krystal Schramm, a member of the Native community herself, and a senior technical business analyst at MiHIN, described efforts she is leading at Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) to connect the 12 federally recognized tribes in Michigan in order to improve health outcomes and support a more equitable healthcare experience for the tribal communities.
AWS has partnered with IOI to launch a virtual innovation center
Amazon Web Services has partnered with health IT interoperability organization the Interoperability Institute to launch a virtual innovation center aimed at advancing healthcare interoperability.
The center, dubbed Interop.WORLD, will allow individuals to test new ideas, collaborate and establish shared resources for health information technology, according to a June 7 press release from the Interoperability Institute.
Organizations have the ability to send Social Need Screenings through MiHIN to other care team members. Those sending this data will need to update their submissions to match the updated SDoH specification released in the Fall. As reviewed on The Download (NCQA/HEDIC 101 & Social Needs Screening and Measure Overview; skip to 1:02), these changes are mostly backwards compatible except for the actual column headers on the file.
Last month concluded our "Data of Advance Care Planning" workshop series. Thank you to those who attended and/or watched the series recording to engage in this critical dialogue. Our team is empowered to take the learnings and recommendations

Admission, Discharge, Transfer Notifications (ADTs): The What, Why, & How
In May, MiHIN hosted The Download and Bits & Bytes dedicated to the why, who, what, how, and when of ADTs. View and share these recordings and presentations on The Download and Bits & Bytes sites, and save the dates for upcoming topics.
eCR in Production
MiHIN is celebrating Corwell East and Michigan Medicine moving into production with eCR. Electronic case reporting (eCR) allows healthcare facilities to automatically report encounter data from an EHR to The Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS), which has the ability to receive electronic case reports using HL7 Clinical Document Architecture.
Electronic reporting to MDHHS fulfills the legal reporting requirement for communicable disease reporting, and for other public health concerns reporting.
MDHHS and MiHIN are working with the CDC eCR team and APHL/AIM, to support an electronic case reporting approach for nationwide interoperability, and enhanced delivery of effective disease control and patient care practices.
